In this busy world in which we find ourselves, it can be difficult to get the really important things done.
Even though we may start the day with good intentions, how often do you find your ‘to do’ list looks almost untouched at the end of the day?
If you’re a busy man who needs to ensure the vital tasks are completed each day, the following tips are for you:
1. Always make a plan.
Prepare your plan for the following day during the evening before, so that when the new day starts you already know what you’re going to be doing. This allows your sub-conscious mind to be working on it for you overnight whilst you’re asleep. How good is that?
2. If you feel that you don’t need to plan your time, go back to Tip 1!
3. Start the day with an optimistic and positive attitude.
You WILL be able to achieve all that you want to today and you will be far more likely do so.
4. Practise limiting the amount of time you spend on distractions.
Social media, your phone in general. You could set a timer for 5 – 10 minutes then stop when it goes off.
5. Learn how to say ‘no’ more easily and more frequently, if necessary.
People do not like to say ‘no’ for fear of upsetting someone. However, in reality when you decide that you CAN say ‘no’ you will find it empowering and a great time saver. There are kind ways to say ‘no’ so that the person on the receiving end is not offended and they can simply ask someone else instead of you.
6. Learn how to delegate more easily and more frequently.
If you find it difficult to delegate, ensure you know the strengths and values of your team members so that you can delegate most effectively.
7. Set boundaries so that those around you know when they CAN disturb you and when they really cannot.
You do NOT need to be available 24/7 – just ensure that those connected to you know this.
8. People need to know what you expect of them.
Are you a good leader? Do you clearly express your needs/desires so that everyone around you understands? Ask for feedback often – this is the best way for us all to develop and grow, don’t be afraid to do this!
9. Regularly ask yourself ‘is this the best use of my time right now?’
If the answer is no, move on quickly to something on your list which is of high importance, high value/reward etc.
10. It doesn’t all have to be hard work…
Allowing yourself short periods of time to do less intense actions in between those of high concentration can be time well spent as it allows you to think differently for a while, you will then feel refreshed when you return to the more complex task.
